With great intentions of raising funds to help over 100 families a year, “Rebuilding Together Montgomery County (RTMC)” auctioned off high-end playhouses on Thursday, May 29, 2014. Many skilled builders from around the area created playhouses with different themes such as a pirate ship, a yellow submarine, and a metro car. During the month of May, you may have noticed those playhouses displayed at Wisconsin Place, at the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and Western Avenue N.W., in an effort to advertise the auction.
The event allowed people the opportunity to bid on one of eight whimsical and custom-built playhouses for family or a charity of his or her choosing. Funds generated from this event benefited RTMC and its mission to provide critical home repairs and energy efficiency upgrades to the county’s most vulnerable residents. By the end of the evening, RTMC raised over $90,000.
This year, Pelican Residential, LLC was thrilled to contribute to the incredible cause by creating a beach themed playhouse that was selected by RTMC as the organization donation to the ARC in Montgomery County, an organization an organization advocating for and serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Contributions totaling $12,100 were pledged by attendees resulting in the highest bid of the night. Representatives from The Arc were present at the event and graciously accepted the donation. The Arc will unveil Pelican Residential’s contribution after foundation for the playhouse is in place.
When thinking of a pelican, a person most likely imagines a beach or the sea. You may think the pelican in “Pelican Residential” was the inspiration for the design; however, the designers used their childhood memories of visiting local beaches and the ideas for the playhouse blossomed from there. A beach themed playhouse was a fantastic way to encourage children to use their imagination.
After researching opportunities to collaborate with RTMC, Pelican Residential found the Playhouse Project. Without question, the company decided that this was a perfect way to help the community and do what they do best: design, build, and make people happy. The designing and building process for the playhouse happened after work hours and took approximately two and a half months to complete in time for the debut at the beginning of May. Pelican Residential’s concern for detail and design was clearly displayed in the beach playhouse and can reflect a lot of the work done day to day for residents of Montgomery County.
